New York, NY — For nearly three decades, survivor whistleblower Maria Farmer has sought justice following her courageous decision to report Jeffrey Epstein’s and Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal conduct to the FBI in the summer of 1996. Despite providing detailed information about sexual abuse and the possible distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), Ms. Farmer’s warnings were met with silence and inaction from federal law enforcement. The FBI’s inaction left Farmer and countless other Epstein survivors without the protection and justice they deserved.
This week marks a watershed moment for survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and for all those who have fought for accountability and transparency from federal law enforcement. The release of the long-suspected FD-71 report by the FBI finally confirms what Marsh Law Firm and its clients have asserted for decades: that in the summer of 1996, survivor whistleblower Maria Farmer courageously reported Epstein’s and Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal conduct—including the sexual abuse of minors and the possible distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM)—directly to the FBI.
In May 2023, Freeman authored a comprehensive letter to the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the Office of the Inspector General, meticulously documenting the Bureau’s decades-long inaction and calling for a full investigation into why Maria Farmer’s warnings were ignored. This letter, supported by extensive evidence and survivor testimony, underscored the devastating consequences of the FBI’s failures—not only for Ms. Farmer, but for countless other victims who suffered in the years that followed.
Despite repeated requests for transparency, Marsh Law Firm’s inquiries were initially met with lackluster bureaucratic responses and inaction. However, the firm’s unwavering advocacy, spearheaded by Freeman and her courageous clients, kept the pressure on federal authorities and ensured that the voices of survivors would not be silenced or forgotten.
The release of the report this week is a powerful vindication of these efforts. For the first time, the FBI’s own records confirm that Maria Farmer’s 1996 report was received and documented—a fact that Marsh Law Firm has fought for years to bring to light. This milestone not only validates the experiences of survivors but also exposes the urgent need for accountability and reform within federal law enforcement.
“Survivors like Maria Farmer have waited nearly three decades for the truth to come out,” said Jennifer Freeman of Marsh Law Firm. “Our numerous attempts to persuade the government to do its sworn duty – including our formal request in 2023 to the Inspector General, Attorney General, and FBI Director to investigate the FBI handling of Maria’s 1996 reports – were met with silence and dismissal instead of the action they deserved. It took a forceful push from Congress and tireless advocacy from survivors to make any headway into the truth. This week’s release of the report is a testament to the power of persistence, the importance of survivor advocacy, and the necessity of holding our institutions accountable. At Marsh Law, we will continue to fight for full transparency and justice for all those harmed by Epstein and those who enabled him.”
Marsh Law Firm remains committed to representing survivors and demanding answers from those in power. The firm calls on the FBI and the Department of Justice to fully investigate the failures surrounding the Epstein case and to ensure that no survivor’s warning is ever ignored again.
