What Is the Trafficking Victims Protection Act?

The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPRA) is a federal law that allows survivors of sex trafficking to pursue civil claims against individuals and institutions that participated in or facilitated trafficking.

  • Allows victims to sue entities that participated in or benefited from trafficking
  • Applies to institutions that knew or should have known of the trafficking
  • Covers survivors of all ages, including both U.S. citizens and non-citizens

Who May Qualify

  • Individuals forced into sexual acts connected to Jeffrey Epstein between June 30, 2008 and July 6, 2019
  • Girls under 18 who engaged in sexual contact with Epstein or his associates
  • Adults who were coerced, defrauded, or forced into sexual contact
